Healthy and Obtainable Local Food
Our goal is to increase the amount of healthy, nutritious, local food that is readily obtainable by low-income, low-access families in Northeast Indiana. We collaborate with partners across Northeast Indiana and beyond to cultivate a resilient local food system that connects our communities, reduces food insecurity, creates prosperity for our farms, and nourishes all our families.
HEAL Farm Markets
The HEAL initiative, a collaborative effort funded by Parkview Health and the St. Joseph Community Health Foundation, significantly improves health outcomes by enhancing food access and education. The "Doubling" initiative boosts purchasing power for fresh fruits and vegetables by doubling SNAP purchase amounts, and WIC and Senior vouchers. HEAL Farm Markets directly support local farmers, providing a direct sales outlet for their fresh, locally grown produce, strengthening the local food economy and empowering community members. The Northeast Indiana Local Food Network is proud to collaborate with Plowshares Cooperative, the Burmese Farmers' and Workers' Initiative of The Workers' Project and Purdue Extension, Allen County for the 2025 market season.
Double Up Indiana
The Northeast Indiana Local Food Network, in partnership with the Indiana Department of Health, serves as Regional Administrator of the Allen County Double Up nutrition incentive program. Double Up provides free fruits and vegetables to SNAP/EBT users, offering a dollar-for-dollar match on produce purchases. This initiative expands access to nutritious food, promoting healthier eating habits within the community. By making fresh produce more affordable, Double Up directly impacts food security, improves the well-being of individuals and families and benefits our farmers and local food system.
