Event Details

Join Johnnie Mae Farm for a tour that will showcase an urban farm that will stretch your understanding of growing food, the beautifully remodeled historic Firehouse #9, and pedal powered green smoothies!

Our urban farm is located in the Renaissance Pointe Neighborhood, and strives to support the Ren Pointe and surrounding neighborhoods by providing healthy, affordable food to residents in southeast Fort Wayne and through providing educational programs on a variety of topics, including nutrition and urban agriculture.

The tour will last approximately 90 minutes and will include the beautifully remodeled historic building and a diversified, small-scale urban farm that strives for more than growing food in the city.

We welcome everyone, including local eaters, fellow farmers, and advocates of local foods, as we celebrate Local Food Week with the Northeast Indiana Local Food Network. Please note, this is a working farm with uneven terrain, insects galore, and tripping hazards. Please plan to tour our space rain or shine. While on site, do not handle equipment or produce.

Parking: Street parking is available along Winter Street and there is a gravel lot available for parking across the street from the building.

COVID information: Tour reservations are required to keep groups small and allow for a thorough tour while maintaining social distancing. Restrooms are available. Please plan to wear a mask when inside and when social distancing not possible outside. If you are feeling ill or have signs/symptoms of COVID, do not attend this event.

The property boasts a state-of-the-art teaching kitchen and three-quarters of an acre of farm in the back. All produce is grown using a responsible land ethic and organic practices. A variety of fresh produce grown on-site is available to local residents on Fridays from 2:00pm-6:00pm. Possible items for purchase include collard and mustard greens, okra, herbs, radishes, tomatoes, zucchini, green beans, peppers, broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts and watermelon.
